Keystone Mercy, Urban Affairs Coalition 'Wellness for Life' Event to Provide Screenings, Healthy Living Workshops

Keystone Mercy Health Plan and the Urban Affairs Coalition will hold the "Wellness for Life" event, a day for the entire family to quiet the mind, nourish the body and engage the spirit, at the Bible Way Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011.

The event will feature health screenings, including mammograms, cholesterol; glucose (blood sugar); body mass index; and blood pressure from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, Bible Way will provide flu shots.

There will also be workshops beginning at 10 a.m. on obesity, exercise and the healthy heart. Iris Simms, a model for QVC, will speak to teens and women on self-esteem, empowerment, loving yourself and peer pressure. Chef and restaurant consultant Joe Polutro will also provide tips on healthy eating.

In another workshop, Mully Chea and Jenquetta Fluellen, of Temple University's College of Health Professions and Social Work will present germ busters tips for parents and kids. There will also be dental screenings for children ages 2 and up and other activities, including face painting and an appearance by Percy the Mercy Bear.

"This event at Bible Way will provide families with a safe, supportive place to learn about their health and receive necessary medical screenings," said Maria Pajil Battle, the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Marketing for Keystone Mercy. "This is part of Keystone Mercy's ongoing partnership with the communities it serves to make a difference in the areas where our members live."
