Keystone Mercy Coverage of Breast Cancer Screenings Unchanged
Philadelphia, PA – Amid the uncertainty surrounding breast cancer screening guidelines, Keystone Mercy Health Plan announced today that its coverage and policies have not changed. As before:
- Keystone Mercy will continue to cover breast cancer screenings (mammograms) for women of all ages when ordered by their doctor.
- Keystone Mercy encourages female members over 40 to talk to their doctors about getting a mammogram.
It’s important to note that women at higher risk should have a mammogram more frequently than those at lower risk. Health guidelines are written for the overall population, but each woman’s risk level is different depending on age, medical history, racial and ethnic background, and other factors.
“If you are confused or concerned about any recent news reports, you should talk to your doctor about your need for a mammogram and your risk level for breast cancer,” said Eric Berman, DO, MS, Chief Medical Officer, Keystone Mercy Health Plan. “Only you and your doctor can determine what’s right for you.”
