Keystone Mercy Employees Donate Record-Breaking Amount to Help Members in Need

Employee-Funded Campaign Celebrates its 20th Year

March 18, 2008
Philadelphia, PA
– Keystone Mercy Health Plan employees recently donated more than $228,000 to the Company's 2008 Mission Partnership Campaign. The annual campaign, now in its 20th year, raises money for programs that support members who are in extreme need by providing assistance in areas that go beyond traditional health care services.

Funds raised during the Mission Partnership campaign are allocated to several programs, including the Member Scholarship program and the Gifts of Mercy program. Money is also donated to affiliated agencies of the United Way. Throughout the year, Mission Partnership funds are also used to help members with specific needs, such as building a wheelchair ramp for a member to provide better access to his or her home.

The Member Scholarship program provides academic scholarships to members to achieve their goals of obtaining a degree in higher education. The program provides assistance to members of all ages, both recent high school graduates and non-traditional students, to help them pay for their education from an accredited college or trade school. Since its inception in 1988, the program has awarded more than 650 scholarships, totaling nearly $1.3 million.

The Gifts of Mercy program, created in 1992, uses money raised by the Mission Partnership Campaign during the holiday season to purchase gifts and necessity items for Keystone Mercy members' families who find themselves in extreme circumstances.

"For twenty years, Mission Partnership funds have offered mercy to many of our members in times of extreme need," said Sister Renee Yann, Senior Vice President of Mission and Values at Keystone Mercy. "Once again this year, I am so honored to work with people who care so much. The generosity of our associates both enables our work and gives it meaning."

Celebrating "20 Years of Caring and Sharing," the spirited two-week fundraising campaign produced this year's unprecedented donation amount, an increase of more than $25,000 from the previous year.
