Keystone Mercy Health Plan Receives Thomson Healthcare Innovator Award

May 29, 2007
Philadelphia, PA – Keystone Mercy Health Plan recently received the Innovator Award from Thomson Healthcare for its proactive case management that targets high-risk members with multiple chronic conditions and co-morbidities.  These individuals represent only about 2 percent of Keystone Mercy’s membership, while being responsible for approximately 14 percent of its medical costs.

Through its PerforMED care management product, the health plan used sophisticated analyses of medical claims data both to identify members who would benefit from case management and to monitor and measure the program’s progress for enrolled members.  Ultimately, PerforMED’s predictive modeling resulted in improved quality of life for chronically ill members while providing $7.8 million in savings for Keystone Mercy.

Keystone Mercy was selected from a distinguished field of five Innovator Award finalists.  In addition to the award, Thompson Healthcare presented Keystone Mercy with a $1,500 check to their Mission Partnership charity on Thursday, May 24, 2007.   The Mission Partnership serves Keystone Mercy’s members through programs designed to go beyond traditional healthcare needs, such as a holiday gifts program and a member scholarship program.

“It is an honor for Keystone Mercy to receive the Innovator Award, recognizing PerforMED’s creative solutions, utilizing data analytics to improve the quality of healthcare for our members.  This award provides evidence of our continued commitment to improving our members’ access to care and to building healthier communities,” said Anne Morrissey, President, Pennsylvania Managed Care, Keystone Mercy.

Thomas Schramm, Director of Client Services for Thomson HealthCare, said Thursday: “Keystone Mercy Health Plan was selected for this award because of the innovativeness of their program and the quantifiable results they achieved, which demonstrated improved quality and utilization over time for their members.”
