Medicaid Members Receive More Than Health Care

Keystone Mercy Campaign Raises More Than $200,000 for Members’ Education and Other Needs

March 1, 2007
Philadelphia, PA – Keystone Mercy Health Plan employees have a long-standing commitment to the members they serve. This year employees contributed more than $200,000 during the annual Mission Partnership Campaign that benefits Keystone Mercy members. This year’s campaign raised a record-breaking dollar amount.

Money raised by Mission Partnership is used for programs that help members in extreme need. As an example, a recent campaign funded the installation of new steps and a concrete sidewalk to help a young Keystone Mercy member with physical limitations. The new entrance provides more freedom for the member to move around outside in his wheelchair.

“The Mission Partnership Campaign is our mission in action to help people get care, stay well and build healthy communities,” said Sister Renee Yann, Senior Vice President of Mission and Values at Keystone Mercy. “It is an amazing thing to see so many people excited to help people in need. To see the associates at Keystone Mercy raise more than any year before is awesome.”

The spirited and energetic two-week campaign raised money from Keystone Mercy employees to fund the company’s Member Scholarship Program, Gifts of Mercy and Associates’ Family Scholarship Program. Money is also donated to the affiliated agencies of the United Way.

The Member Scholarship Program provides academic scholarships to members to achieve their goals of obtaining a degree in higher education. Since its inception in 1988, the program has awarded more than 650 scholarships, totaling nearly $1.3 million.

The Gifts of Mercy program, created in 1992, uses money raised by the Mission Partnership Campaign during the holiday season to purchase gifts for Keystone Mercy members families who find themselves in extreme circumstances.

Keystone Mercy Health Plan, a health care ministry of the Sisters of Mercy in affiliation with Keystone First, Inc., is the largest Medical Assistance managed care organization in Pennsylvania, serving more than 270,000 Medical Assistance recipients.  Keystone Mercy's mission is to help people get care, stay well and build healthy communities.
