Three Local Medicaid Health Plans Partner to Host Women's Health Day

Keystone Mercy, Health Partners and AmeriChoice Host Women's Health Fair

March 3, 2006
Philadelphia, PA - Three local Medicaid health plans, Keystone Mercy, Health Partners and AmeriChoice, are sponsoring the Women's Health Day on Saturday, March 11, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 3600 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia.

With assistance from Fox Chase Cancer Center, Pfizer and the American Cancer Society, this collaborative health event will offer mammography screenings, performed onsite by Fox Chase, with an assortment of other activities, including blood pressure and cholesterol screenings performed by Pfizer.

Women's Health Day will feature eight 30-minute presentations, each followed by discussion sessions, on a variety of women's health topics:

  • Breast Health
  • Colorectal Cancer
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Heart Attack and Stroke
  • Taking Medication
  • Depression
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases
  • Fighting Germs

Keystone Mercy, Health Partners and AmeriChoice are partnering to make sure that all women have access to quality health care, especially all-important mammograms and other preventive health screenings.

"The Women's Health Day event is a great way for women in our community to focus on their own health, something that women don't always do," said Dr. Barrie Baker, Senior Medical Director at Keystone Mercy. "It is great to see so many health organizations partner together to encourage women to take control of their health."

As women's lives become more complicated trying to balance career and family responsibilities, it is often difficult for them to find time to visit their personal physician to take care of their own health. The situation gets even more problematic for women from communities that have been traditionally underserved

The event will include additional health information provided by Einstein Medical Center, the Food and Nutrition Service of the USDA and the Family Planning Council, entertainment and face painting for kids, refreshments.
