Pregnancy

If you are thinking about becoming pregnant it is important to educate yourself on the different things you need to do before getting pregnant and as a pregnant woman.

Call Keystone Mercy and let us know you are pregnant! We have a special program for pregnant members called WeeCare.

Before you are pregnant, start taking a folic acid vitamin. This will help you to have a healthy baby.

If you are pregnant, there are some very important steps to follow to make sure you are getting the right health care for you and your baby.

  1. As soon as you think you are pregnant, call your doctor to make an appointment. If you need help finding a Keystone Mercy doctor, please go to Find a Provider.
  2. Once you know you are pregnant, make an appointment with your obstetrician (OB). The OB is a doctor who specializes in pregnancy. Also, make an appointment with your dentist during your second trimester. Dental care is very important for you and your baby during your pregnancy. It can help stop premature births and low birth weights.
  3. Call Keystone Mercy and let us know you are pregnant! We have a special program for pregnant members called WeeCare.
With the WeeCare program, we will give you information about the importance of:
    • Taking your prenatal vitamins - Your body needs extra vitamins, like folic acid (a B vitamin), when you are pregnant. Taking vitamins during your pregnancy is important for the baby's health.
    • Eating right
    • Going to your doctor regularly
    • Staying away from drugs, alcohol and smoking
    • Visiting your dentist, so you can keep your gums and teeth healthy.
We will also work with your doctor and dentist to make sure you get the care you need.
To join WeeCare, please call 1-800-521-6867.
  4. Stay away from drugs, alcohol, and smoking! These will all harm your baby even before he/she is born.
  5. Call the Statewide Change Center at 1-877-395-8930. If you are in Philadelphia, call (215) 560-7226. Tell them you are pregnant. This is very important. They will make sure you get the benefits and services you and your baby need.
  6. After delivering your baby:
    • Make sure you go to your OB for a post partum check;
    • Call the Statewide Change Center to let them know that you have had your baby,
    • Call Keystone Mercy's Member Services at 1-800-521-6860. Tell us the baby's name and the name of your baby's doctor.

Sometimes women feel down or sad after having a baby. This is normal. Please ask yourself these two questions:

During the past month, have I often felt down, depressed or hopeless?

During the past month, have I had little interest or pleasure in doing things?

If you answered "yes" to one or both of these questions, please call our WeeCare department at our toll free number, 1-800-521-6867. Our local number is 215-863-5711. We want to make sure you get the help you need.
